WHAT'S NEW?

I will now feature a monthly quiz related to our latest family story. Take today's quiz and read more about Dad's story below.

How soon does the body begin to recover from the negative health effects of smoking after quitting?

A.  24 Hours
B.  6 Months
C.  20 Minutes
D.  1 Year

There is always some type of drama going on with the Newmans. In this section I will post the latest saga in our family.

Everyone in the Newman family has procrastination down to an art.  Especially when it comes to our health.  I have to admit, with many things in life there’s a time to wait and a time to move forward.  But when it comes to health, I’ve finally accepted the fact that it’s no time to wait around to see what’s going to happen.  And I think Dad has finally figured that out as well. View the latest video diary or read more below.

WALTER'S STORY

Dad had a nagging cough for a long time…    for months. With all of us bugging him about it, he finally gave in and went to see his doctor who ordered an X-ray .  It showed a little spot on his lung, so a CT scan at PinnacleHealth Imaging, West Hanover was scheduled to take a closer look. They also did a simple needle biopsy.

We were all so relieved when the tests came back negative, especially Mom.  There was no sign of cancer or other serious problem.  It was just a lingering cough from some bronchitis he had a while back .. and from being a former smoker.  His family doctor  gave him some medication to help clear it up.

So now Mom and Dad can kick back and enjoy their upcoming 50th Anniversary bash and the cruise they have booked!  And the rest of the family can relax as well.

Lesson learned? Get symptoms checked for early detection and for peace of mind.  Don’t make yourself or your family suffer with worry just because you’re stubborn ... Dad!

By sharing Walter's story we hope others in a similar situation can get some education and relief of their symptoms.

ABOUT THE NEWMANS

Life hasn't always been a bed of roses growing up as a Newman ... with big expectations and even bigger egos. But with our parents' fiftieth anniversary coming up, it's time for us to celebrate who we really are. Welcome to the Newman Family website.

I guess compared to some other families we had it pretty good. Greg, Steven and I played in the back of our father's diner when we were kids, stealing French fries every chance we got and learning early on that it wasn't okay to eat the partially eaten pie the waitress cleared from tables. Boy, did we ever get in trouble when Dad caught us doing that!

Now we're all grown up. Hopefully Mom and Dad are proud of all. They'd better be...they pushed us all hard enough to get us where we are now. Greg took over the diner when Dad retired and has two kids of his own--Matt's a senior in high school and Katie's a freshman in college. Steven's married and a very successful lawyer. Me, I took a liking to the cash register at the diner and ended up a bank VP. Let's see...we went from eating garbage as kids to being upstanding citizens. I'd say we did pretty well !
